Meet the Staff

Executive Director

 

Geoff Burns has a B.S. Environmental Science from Valparaiso University. He was born in Lancaster and went to camp at Geneva Hills from 1991-1994. In 1995-2004 Geoff was a counselor for one week each summer. Geoff is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Glenn and Linda Burns of Lancaster.

After graduating from Valparaiso University, married his wife Kristy in December of 2004. Geoff attended the National Ranger Training Institute at Hocking College in 2005 where he graduated First in Class Rank.

Geoff has been the director of Geneva Hills since 2005. He along with his wife Kristy have founded two non-profit organizations, and also operate Burns and Associates, Ltd., a non-profit consulting and management company. Geoff’s first book, Rescuing the Mission:The Geneva Hills Story, was published in 2011.  Geoff also received his MBA in international business from Salem University in 2011. He is also hosting a half hour weekly radio show dedicated to non-profit management and operations on 90.9 WRFD in Lancaster, OH every Monday morning at 9:15.

Director of Development


Kristy has a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from Valparaiso University. Kristy was born in Hobart, Indiana. Kristy is the first of four children. She is thedaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Janet Schlosser of Hobart.

After graduating from Valparaiso University, Kristy moved to South Dakota where she worked as a special education teacher for Crow Creek Tribal Schools on a Lakota Souix Indian Reservation. During her first year teaching, she began her masters degree in special education and also met her soon to be husband Geoff.

After moving to Ohio, Kristy worked in both special education and hospitality management. Kristy left her position as a manager of an Inn located in the Hocking Hills to work full time managing the office at Geneva Hills.

Kristy along with her husband Geoff have founded three companies including two non-profit organizations. Kristy is the key visionary to expanding Geneva Hills to more people, groups and organizations every day.

She currently is the former Chairman of the Main Street Lancaster Promotions Committee, where she was directly responsible for helping coordinate monthly community activities in downtown Lancaster. She currently volunteers for the promotions committee and sits on the board of directors for Main Street Lancaster. Kristy is working on her Masters degree in Fundraising.

Office Manager

 

Karla Duncan is the youngest of three children. She moved from Groveport to Sugar Grove, OH with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl D. Neely, and her brother Curtis and sister Crystal in 1992.

Karla Graduated from Berne Union High School in 2006. She furthered her education in Health and Information Management, Billing, and Coding. In the summer of 2006 she married Christopher Duncan, her boyfriend of five years.

Karla began working for Geneva Hills in 2009 and plans on staying with us for many years to come.

 

Camp Director

John Greenwood is the youngest of three children. He was born in Lancaster, Ohio and attended camp at Geneva Hills from 1991-1992. John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen and Amanda Greenwood of Lancaster.

John graduated from Amanda Clear creek High School in2000. He is currently attending DeVry University to obtain a Bachelors degree in Network Systems Management. John began working at Geneva Hills in 2009 and has been a close friend of Geoff Burns since they were very young.

Food Service Coordinator

Camp Counselors and Adventure Staff

Becca Ward is currently attending the Ohio State University. She is pursuing a degree in Spanish and social work. Aside from being the lead female counselor for Geneva Hills over the past few years, Becca also enjoys running, baking, reading and hanging out with friends, and hiking when her ankle is not messed up.

 

 

Jon Wymer is 26 and loves the outdoors and climbing. He works full time for Hocking Hills Canopy Tours and also works for Geronimo Construction (builder of canopy tours, zip lines, challenge courses, and suspension bridges). Jon does tree trimming as a side job. Jon has worked at Geneva Hills since he was 15 when he started as a lifeguard.

Jon now helps out when he can to do hayrides and facilitate for the high ropes course.  He loves Geneva Hills and is glad that it is still a part of his life even if he is not as involved with the camp as he used to be.

 

 

Shawn is a resident of Lancaster, Ohio and is married to Melissa Ford. They have one child, Kallum, (KAY-lum) who takes up 90% of their time when they are not doing other things. Shawn is currently a full time student at Hocking College pursuing a degree in Geo environmental Sciences to help supplement his BA in Organizational Communications from Ohio University. Besides an overwhelming interest in the geological sciences, Shawn is a Past Master of Lithopolis Lodge#169, and is involved in the Boy Scouts of America as the Charter Representative for Pack, Troop, and Crew 5 at the Lancaster First Presbyterian Church. In his free time, Shaw n is working on writing several novels of the“hard scifi” genre and hopes to have them competed in the next year or so. Shawn is also a certified Leave No Trace trainer, and encourages all the groups he works with at camp to follow the seven LNT principles in their lives.

Erin Conner Addington grew up running around Geneva Hills like it was her own backyard. She spent many years as a camper, counselor, camp director, music director, kitchen help and many other things. Now she is a facilitator for the initiatives course and the ropes course.
